Why your New Year's resolutions died in February

In partnership with

Hey friend,

Ever wonder why you set a goal to get fit, eat kale, and run marathons, but three weeks later you’re on the couch eating ice cream directly from the carton while watching a reality show about people who hoard cats?

It’s not because you’re weak. It’s not because you lack discipline. It’s because of your Paradigms.

Yesterday, we looked at the Stickperson. We established that the Subconscious Mind drives the bus. Well, a Paradigm is the multitude of habits fixed in that subconscious mind. It is the autopilot. It is the thermostat.

If the thermostat in the room is set to 65 degrees, and you try to heat things up by lighting a fire (willpower/conscious effort), the temperature might rise to 70 for a bit. But the second the fire dies down, the thermostat kicks on the AC and drags you right back down to 65.

Your bank account, your weight, your relationships—they are all regulated by your internal thermostat.

Paradigms are crafty. They are passed down genetically and environmentally. You didn’t choose your name, your language, or your favorite food growing up. They were downloaded into your subconscious before you could even think. You are running code written by other people!

Think of the movie The Matrix. The Paradigm is Agent Smith. Its only job is to maintain the status quo. The moment you try to fly, the Paradigm shows up and says, "Mr. Anderson, sit down."

Most people try to change their results by changing their behavior. That’s an M2 strategy, and it’s exhausting. It’s like trying to hold a beach ball underwater. Eventually, your arms get tired, and the ball shoots back up. To change your life permanently, you have to change the programming. You have to reset the thermostat.

How? Through Constant Spaced Repetition of new ideas.

You can’t just say an affirmation once and expect a miracle. You have to impress the new idea into the subconscious over and over again until the old idea dies of starvation. It takes emotion. It takes feeling. You have to "feel" the wish fulfilled.

It sounds like work, and it is. But here is the good news: the more you read these emails and engage with this truth, the more success will flow to you naturally. You are slowly turning up the heat on your internal thermostat just by being here.

I’ve got a specific audio track in the link below that helps with this reprogramming. You will be incredibly grateful you clicked that link because it does the heavy lifting for you. It’s like learning a language while you sleep.

But here is the thing: You have tools to fight this battle. You have "Mental Muscles" that you probably aren’t using. Most people use their sensory factors (see, hear, smell, taste, touch) to live. But you? You are going to learn to use your Higher Faculties.

We start unwrapping those superpowers tomorrow.

Quick question for you:

If you could snap your fingers and change one belief about yourself instantly, what would it be?

Reply and tell me.

Onward,

P.S. Tomorrow, I’m giving you a Green Lantern ring. Sort of. You’ll see.
