Why your bank account looks like a rerun
You know that classic Bill Murray movie where he wakes up every single morning to the same Sonny & Cher song, steps in the same icy puddle, and has the same conversation with the insurance salesman?
That is not just a movie. That is a documentary about your neurochemistry.
We like to think we are these dynamic, unpredictable beings of mystery. We aren't. We are walking, talking record players skipping on the same scratched groove. You wake up, you check your phone, you drink the same coffee out of the same chipped mug, and you think the same thoughts about how traffic is going to be a nightmare.
And then—surprise!—traffic is a nightmare. You pat yourself on the back for being right, not realizing you just directed the scene before the cameras even started rolling.
This is the foundation of what I call the "Old Self."
Here is the truth that stings a little: Your personality creates your personal reality. And your personality is made up of how you think, how you act, and how you feel. So, logic dictates that if you want a new personal reality—say, one where you aren't stressing about the price of eggs or looking at a bank balance that makes you want to weep—you have to become a new personality.
Most people live by the Newtonian model of reality. This is the old-school way of thinking. It says that cause and effect are external. You wait for the promotion to feel successful. You wait for the partner to feel loved. You wait for the lottery win to feel abundant.
That is backward. That is like standing in front of a mirror and screaming at your reflection, "Smile first, and then I will smile!"
You are going to be standing there a long time, my friend. And you will look ridiculous doing it.
The Newtonian model makes you a victim. It says your environment—your boss, the economy, the weather in Ohio—controls how you feel. And because those things make you feel the same way every day, you think the same thoughts. Those thoughts lead to the same choices. Those choices lead to the same behaviors. And those behaviors create the same experiences that produce the same emotions.
It is a loop. A hamster wheel. And the hamster is tired.
Your body is actually the culprit here. It is your unconscious mind. It has memorized the feeling of "lack" or "stress" so well that it has become an addiction. You might say you want to be wealthy, but your body is craving the chemical rush of anxiety because that is what it knows. It is chemically addicted to the past.
To change, you have to be greater than your body. You have to be greater than your environment. You have to be greater than time itself.
It is funny how the mind works when you start feeding it a different diet. You might notice that as you continue reading these emails, you naturally find yourself stumbling into more success, almost as if the universe is conspiring in your favor. It’s just how the law works. We become what we think about, but more importantly, we become what we feel.
I sent a resource to a friend the other day, and he told me that when he clicked the link, he felt a wave of gratitude for the new direction his life was taking. That is the secret sauce. Gratitude isn't a reaction to getting what you want; it is the cause of getting what you want.
So, here is your homework for the week. Catch yourself in the loop. When you start complaining about the same old thing, stop. Realize that is just a memory playing out in real-time. It is a ghost. Do not let a ghost write the script of your life.
Tomorrow, I am going to show you how to use the "Quantum Signature." It involves turning your brain into a radio transmitter that broadcasts a signal so strong, the things you want have no choice but to find you.
If you could snap your fingers and be a completely different person tomorrow, what is the one personality trait you would ditch first?
