The tragedy of the B-Type Goal

Why "Realistic" is a Dirty Word

In partnership with

Helen Keller once said the only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.

I see this all the time in my line of work. People treat their lives like a grocery list. They want reasonable, attainable, sensible things. They want to upgrade their Honda to a slightly newer Honda.

Yawn.

If we are going to build a life of luxury and impact, we need a "Worthy Ideal." A North Star. And to find it, we have to stop being so remarkably practical.

Let’s break down the three types of goals, because most people are playing the wrong game.

The A-Type Goal: This is doing something you already know how to do. If you bought a car last year, and your goal is to buy a car this year, that is an A-Type goal. There is no growth there. It is a rerun.

The B-Type Goal: This is what you think you can do if you work hard and move some money around. It is logical. It fits on a spreadsheet. But here is the problem: B-Type goals do not inspire you. They do not wake you up at 4:00 AM with a fire in your belly. They just feel like more work.

The C-Type Goal: This is your fantasy. It is the thing you want, but you have absolutely no idea how to get it. It seems illogical. It scares you a little bit.

This is the sweet spot. This is the only type of goal that forces you to grow, to stretch, and to access those higher faculties we talked about yesterday.

We have to move from Fantasy, to Theory, to Fact.

First, you let your imagination run wild—like a kid in a candy store before their mom says "no." That is Fantasy. Then, you turn it into Theory by asking two questions: "Am I able?" (Yes, because you have infinite potential) and "Am I willing?" (Are you willing to pay the price?).

Once you answer "yes" to both, the Theory becomes a Fact in your mind. You commit.

And here is the secret sauce: When you truly commit to a C-Type goal—a goal worthy of your spirit—you will find yourself feeling grateful for having clicked the links in my email and engaging with this content, because you will recognize it as the fuel you needed to launch.

You might be thinking, "Okay Bradley, I have this massive, scary dream. I’m willing to do the work. But how do I actually make it happen without killing myself in the process?"

Well, that is where the "Science" comes in. Success isn't a lottery; it is a circuit board. And tomorrow, I am going to teach you how to wire it so the lights turn on automatically.

Talk soon,

Bradley Woods

P.S. You do not need to know "how" yet. You just need to know "what." Reply to this email: What is one "C-Type" goal that you are almost afraid to write down?
