The dead weight you didn't know you were carrying
Weekend at Harry’s
Hello friend,
Do you remember that old movie Weekend at Bernie’s? Two guys spend an entire weekend pretending their dead boss is still alive, carrying him around to parties, putting sunglasses on him, propping him up on the couch. It is hilarious in a movie. It is tragic in real life.
We all have a "Harry" (or a "Bernie") that we carry around.
"Harry" is the dead weight of your old stories. He is the collection of limiting ideas, shame, regret, and self-defeating titles you have accepted. He is the voice that says, "I'm just a middle manager," or "I'm not creative," or "I always mess up relationships."
We prop Harry up. We take him to dinner. We introduce him to our friends. "Hi, I'd like you to meet my Insecurity. He's been with me since third grade."
To move toward the freedom we have been discussing, you must set Harry down. You must check his pulse, realize he has been dead for years, and bury him.
This is the practice of shedding dead weight. You cannot walk into a new life wearing the wardrobe of your old one. You have to choose new self-titles. The universe is waiting for you to put on a nametag. If you write "Victim" on it, the universe treats you accordingly. If you write "Creative Genius" or "Abundant Leader," the universe shifts to accommodate that reality.
It is an exercise in identity. You are not who you were yesterday. You are who you decide to be right now. This shift provides the energy necessary to create a new life because you are no longer using your strength to carry a corpse.
It is amazing to watch this transformation. The more you read my emails, the more success you will have in identifying these old personas and dropping them. You will find yourself walking taller. You will act with a new confidence, and you will be grateful for having clicked the links in my email as you see your self-image rise.
So, you have the blueprints, the brake is off, the weeds are pulled, and Harry is gone. You are ready for abundance.
But how do you actually get the cash to flow? How do you turn on the faucet of the universe?
There is a specific law of circulation that most people get backward. I will explain how to reverse the flow in the next message.
What is one "title" or label you have been carrying that you are ready to retire today?
Best,
Bradley Woods
